Environmental Leadership

Our Philosophy

Tower has always embraced the responsibility we have to sustain the environment and better the health and wellbeing of building occupants. We were early adopters of LEED and have many “firsts” for sustainable buildings including the 1st LEED Platinum multitenant office building in the DC metro and 1st LEED Platinum Existing Building Operations + Maintenance certified multifamily project in the world. Tower was also an early fitwel Champion, certifying the first multifamily fitwel project in the world in 2018 (The Pearl). We continuously invest in systems that promote efficiency and indoor air quality for our tenants – including real time monitoring of indoor air and energy. As leaders in commercial real estate industry, we feel it is our duty to do everything in our power to create safer, cleaner and healthier environments for our residents. The recent COVID crisis caused us to raise our standards even higher on existing operational protocols and risk mitigation strategies.

The Tower Companies: Pioneers in Sustainable Buildings

The Tower Companies has consistently demonstrated its commitment to creating sustainable and healthy buildings. With a forward-thinking approach and a focus on environmental stewardship, we have emerged as pioneers in sustainable development, and building operations, setting new standards for others to follow.

At The Tower Companies, we firmly believe that a healthy and sustainable building is more than just four walls and a roof. It is an intricate ecosystem that promotes the well-being of its occupants, while minimizing its impact on the environment. Our holistic vision encompasses every aspect of building design, construction, and operation to ensure that our developments prioritize the health and happiness of the people who inhabit them.

We are signatories of the Urban Land Institute’s Net Zero Imperative to drive down operational carbon emissions by 2050.

Sustainable Design and Operation

We strive to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of our buildings by incorporating sustainable design principles in both our development and operations. Our team is consistently optimizing the use of energy, water, and materials. We embrace cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions, such as solar panels, and efficient HVAC systems, to minimize energy consumption and carbon emissions. We utilize reclaimed and recycled materials wherever possible, while offering an innovative composting program for our residents and field offices, reducing landfill waste and conserving resources.

Healthy Lifestyle Promotion

At The Tower Companies, we go beyond the brick-and-mortar infrastructure to foster healthy lifestyles among our tenants. Our buildings feature well-designed fitness centers equipped with state-of-the-art exercise equipment, encouraging regular physical activity. We prioritize access to natural light and views, which have been proven to enhance mental health and productivity.
Moreover, we actively promote alternative transportation options, such as bike lanes, electric vehicle charging stations, and well-connected public transportation networks. These initiatives not only reduce the environmental impact of commuting but also encourage tenants to adopt healthier habits, such as cycling or walking.
